DE FRESAS POR MADRID
Madrid´s Strawberry Roadmap
“Let me take you down cause I´m going to Madrid´s Strawberry Fields…” Let us take you in a trip around Madrid where you will discover with us which role plays the Strawberry in Spain. How we call it, how we use it and which recipes you must try during your Erasmus in Spain. Keep reading… las fresas te esperan!
1) LA FRESA O LAS FRESAS – STRAWBERRY IN SPANISH
In Spain we call “Fresas” to strawberries. “Fresa” is the singular form of “Strawberry” and “Fresas” is the plural form. It is a female noun so you should use “La” or “Las” before it, for example: “Las Fresas” o “La Fresa”.
FRESAS PARA DESAYUNAR – STRAWBERRIES BRUNCH
We wake up!! All you need is “Fresas” to enjoy this post!!
In Spain we love to wake up late on weekends that´s why we also do Brunch.
We begin our trip having Brunch at Pomme Sucre, a beautiful pastry shop founded by an Asturian man called Julio Blanco born in Gijón (Calle Barquillo 49, Madrid).

Walking around Madrid could be exhausting so why don´t we have a break and have some…Fresas and Drinks?
2) LA FRESA EN LAS BEBIDAS – STRAWBERRY & DRINKS
You can find Fresas in some of our drinks because they add colour/cool appearance and sometimes they add flavour. In Spain we can either have a drink with fresas in the afternoon or in an afterwork party!
What is on our Fresas Drinks Menu?
MOJITO CON FRESAS in Zombie Bar after one of their delicious Burgers or before going clubbing with your friends (Calle Pez, 7, Barrio Malasaña. Metro: Noviciado).
ORGANIC JUICE in Lolina Vintage, the perfect place for a chat with friends or an original date (Espíritu Santo, 9. Madrid.Metro: Tribunal).
Speaking about drinks… we even use them in our “Gazpacho de Fresa” one of our best recipes to eat healthy during the summer. (It is not a real “drink” but we serve it like a cold soup so we drink it!)
If you want to try an authentic “gazpacho de fresa” you should go to La Berenjena (Calle Marqués de Toca 7, 28012 Madrid).
But if you want to learn how to do it…
GAZPACHO DE FRESAS – STRAWBERRY GAZPACHO RECIPE
Clean some tomatoes, one cucumber and some “Fresas”. Cut the tomatoes in pieces, clean the strawberries and peel the cucumber. Put them all in a bowl with a little bit of salt & oil.
Blend it first and strain it afterwards… And it is done!!!
Although there you got some links where you can find more recipes:
After la siesta and before going to a “Fiesta” in our Roadtrip around Madrid we should recharge energies and eat something sweet…
3) TARTAS Y FRESAS – STRAWBERRY & CAKES
It is coffee time in Madrid and you are shopping around el “Mercado de Fuencarral”. Have break and have a coffee and a delicious cake at Oita Café (C/Hortaleza, 30. Metro Gran Vía).
4) EL TREN DE LA FRESA – THE STRAWBERRY TRAIN
Our trip around Madrid in this case does not end with another way of Fresas tasting!! It ends abroad an historic train called “El tren de la fresa” which connects Madrid with Aranjuez. It is a unique experience to go to Aranjuez, which is beautiful, and learn a little bit more about our history.
