What to do once you reach Madrid?

Adolfo Suárez – Madrid – Barajas is the most important Spanish airport. If you arrive to Madrid and don’t have a friend who can pick you up at the airport, don’t worry. There are several options to reach your flat. The airport is 13 km (8 miles) away from Madrid, so walking won’t be an option. Here are some which will work:

Airport shuttle

If you are coming with a small group of university friends, you can take a shuttle service between the airport and the city center. It will be cheaper than taking taxis.

Price: €20-€40 for the service (not per person). This will depend on your flat’s location, the number of pieces of luggage you’re carrying and the group size (seven people max.)

Bus

If your flight arrives to T1, T2 or T3, Line 200 will take you from there straight to Avenida de América. And if you are at T4, Line 204 is your option. They both take between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the traffic.
Price: Single ticket €1

Metro

Out of all the options we consider this is the best and cheapest one, connecting you with practically any part of the city. It is important for you to know that the Madrid airport metro Station is located between T2 and T3. This means that if you are at T1 you have a 10 minute walk to get there. On the other hand, if you arrive at T4, you can take the complimentary airport shuttle service to T2.

To reach from the airport to “Nuevos Ministerios Station” (city center) you should take the Metro Line 8 (the pink one), and only 4 stops and 12 minutes later, you will be there!

Price: Not very expensive, but you will save money if you buy a Metrobus ticket with 10 journeys right at the airport metro station.

Taxi

There are a tons of taxis just outside the terminal, so there’s no need to follow any of the drivers waiting inside the building.

Minimum taxi fare starts at €1.85 as soon as you hop in. It is a good idea to check a map before the trip and have a kind of route in mind.

Price: The source for these fares are the RADIO-eco-TAXI web, giving an approximate idea of what it could cost:
– Customer pickup at home or place.
– 4 people and their luggage.
– Transfer to Airport Terminal in Taxi.
– Total price closed €30.
*This fee will be applied when trips are to or from Madrid Barajas Airport and the within the 30th Street.
